SATA-IO Highlights SATA Express at 2013 Storage Visions Conference

Storage Visions

At the recent 2013 Storage Visions Conference, SATA-IO announced that the SATA Express specification had entered the ratification phase.

SATA Express standardizes PCI Express (PCIe) as an interface for client storage, enabling an ecosystem in which SATA and PCIe solutions can coexist. This provides a low-cost, high-speed solution to fully utilize the performance of next generation SSDs and hybrid drives. PCIe technology enables interface speeds of up to 1GB/s per lane in the client space, as compared to today’s SATA technology at 0.6GB/s. The specification has since been ratified and is available to SATA-IO members.

The SATA-IO booth at Storage Visions featured various SATA Express presentations, signage and collateral to highlight the specification’s benefits and recent developments. Check out the “Exhibitors” video from StorageVisionsTV to see our booth, signage and materials at the show. SATA-IO Board member and Marketing Workgroup Chair, Paul Wassenberg also led a session at the event, “Evolving SATA for High-Speed Storage,” which addressed the latest SATA Express developments.

The announcement received significant attention before and during Storage Visions, generating a number of unique articles in industry publications. Visit the “SATA in the News” page of the SATA-IO website to view coverage of this announcement and stay tuned for additional developments.

Mark Your Calendars – SATA-IO’s Next Plugfest and Interoperability Workshop Set for May 20-23 in Taipei, Taiwan

SATA-IO’s next Plugfest and Interoperability Workshop is scheduled for May 20-23, 2013 in Taipei, Taiwan. Plugfests are an important opportunity for companies designing SATA products to quickly and easily assess the health of their products through interoperability testing, while Interoperability Workshops act as a mechanism for verifying both compliance with the SATA specification and interoperability among products in the marketplace.

Registration will be opening soon. Stay tuned for additional information on these events.
